The Gift of Christmas

I will recount the gracious deeds of the Lord, the praiseworthy acts of the Lord, because of all that the Lord has done for us, and the great favor to the house of Israel that he has shown them according to his mercy, according to the abundance of his steadfast love. For he said, “Surely they are my people, children who will not deal falsely”; and he became their savior in all their distress. It was no messenger or angel but his presence that saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old Isaiah 63:7-9 It is almost here! The birth of Christ, the day we have been preparing for has almost ar

Unexpected Signs

Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, saying, Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test. James 5:7-10 The Advent season is not only a time of preparation, but is also a time when we wait for the birth of Christ. In an age where we receive instant gratification and free two day shipping, for mos

Psalm 122:6-9 The Psalmist writes these words in a time of unrest. Within them is a hope for the peace that God has offered Jerusalem. A peace is far from the Psalmist’s experience. Instead, Jerusalem seems like a place of refuge in the midst of a threatening storm. We experience this peace, this refuge, in the gift of grace we receive through Christ. God has given to us the gift of peace. As w
