Faith United Methodist Church Weekly e-Newsletter
Dog owners are like the postal service - we carry out our duty in all kinds of conditions. For some owners, the motivation is faithfulness to our faithful friends. However, this is not always the case. In my case, the motivation is fear of my dog pooping in the house. Earlier this week, as I walked my dog through another wet, rainy morning, I realized that the rain (on this day) was different from previous rainy days. In fact, though it felt like we've had more rainy days than not recently, each rainy day has been unique. On Monday morning, the rain fell like a drizzle of fine mist on a windless, overcast day. It was a strangely gentle, serene and peaceful rain. What in the world does rain have to do with faith?! The prophet Hosea offers these words, "Let us press on to know the Lord; his appearing is as sure as the dawn; he will come to us like the showers, like the spring rains that water the earth" (Hosea 6:3). Hosea compares God's faithfulness to the spring rain. Like the cleansing, refreshing waters of a rain shower in the spring, God meets us right where we are. We may feel exhilarated or exhausted. We may be free or frustrated. In every time and season of life, God is faithful. As we press on to know God, we can rest assured that God knows us fully and invites us to walk the steps of each new day (rain or shine) with Him.
Loving Lord, we praise you for your faithfulness. As we begin this new day, renew our souls. Strength our faith. Help us to draw near to you. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
