Faith UMC of Orland Park eNOTE

"and we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness..."

- 2 Corinthians 3:18

There's a lot of construction happening around the church these days. Floors are being resurfaced. Platforms are being extended. Ramps are being built. On one hand, this work is disruptive and unsettling. Things are not where they used to be. Someone has "moved our cheese!"

On the other hand, we are striving toward a vision of how things can be. We are working towards a better future. Life may be temporarily unsettled, but our goal is clear. We're trying to make our church home a place that can better facilitate the ministries of Jesus Christ - making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The physical renovation of our building is a reminder that we all need ongoing spiritual renovation of our lives.

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." - Romans 12:1

As Christians, we are new creations of God in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). However, being born again is not the same as being mature in faith. We all need to engage in God's ongoing work of maturity and being transformed into Christ's likeness.

In the midst of this disruptive "spiritual renovation," let's keep in mind our larger goal and purpose. Our hope is to become more like Christ. We are striving to mature in faith so that we can better facilitate the gospel of Jesus Christ - making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Loving Lord, thank you for your ongoing work in our lives. Thank you for calling and empowering us to be part of your life-giving mission. We commit ourselves again to your work of drawing others into a life-giving relationship with you. Help us to grow more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ, who died for us and lives in us. We pray all this in Jesus' name. Amen.

- Pastor Caleb
