"Pray continually" - 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Who (or what) are you praying for this morning?
This morning, I found myself inspired by the example and challenge of Pope Francis. In light of the European refugee crisis that we hear about every day (in the news,) Pope Francis has not only offered asylum for a Syrian refugee family in the Vatican, he has also called on every European parish to take care of a refugee family. (http://news.yahoo.com/pope-francis-puts-syrian-refugee-family-115438511.html) Friends, we may not live in Europe, but we are all called to act with love and grace. As one body in Christ, let's do our part in responding to the political unrest and violence that's causing families to flee their homelands. Let's pray for our refugee sisters and brothers as they seek a safe place to live and raise their families. Let's lift up those individuals/parishes who are offering hospitality and mercy. Let's encourage our nation's leaders to be messengers of peace and hospitality toward refugees. Let's also pray for our openness to helping meet the daily needs of sisters and brothers in our communities - whatever they may be. Our responses may never make the front page of Yahoo news, but our work is the same. Christ calls us to serve as his hands and feet - sharing his love, hospitality, and grace practical, live-giving ways. Prayer
Heavenly Father, you remind us that all people have a seat in your kingdom. Whether we are rich or poor, young or old, nationals or immigrants, we are all known and loved by you. Help us to be open to the needs of our neighbors. May we be "healed of the deafness of our selfishness and silence of retreating into ourselves." We long to honor you as we care for and serve our sisters and brothers in Jesus' name. Amen. - Pastor Caleb
