Devotion - Prayer

We had a wonderful worship service focused on "The Path of Biblical Prayer" last Sunday. If you weren't able to join us, check it out at Throughout the week, I found myself reflecting on what Ray Schmidt and Pastor Caitlyn shared about Scripture study and prayer. So, a few days ago, I took a different approach to prayer. Rather than sitting in silence, praying through the Lord's Prayer, or offering my own free-formed prayers, I prayed through one of the prayers passed down by our ancestors of faith - the Prayer of St. Francis. Talk about a prayer that is saturated with a love for God and knowledge of Scriptures. As you'll read below, it's a prayer that both challenges and inspires us to draw near to God - not simply as we are, but as we hope to be. "Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardonging that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life." We're gathering for Thanksgiving Sunday service this weekend. I hope to see you there (9 & 11 AM).

- Pastor Caleb
