"When Jesus returns, like a thief in the night"

Advent is the season of 4 Sundays leading up to Christmas. It is a season of waiting. On one hand, Advent reminds us to wait/prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth. Every store, billboard, newspaper, and commercial reminds us of this fact. However, there’s more. As people of faith, Advent also reminds us that we await/prepare for Christ’s return. Jesus’ story is not over. Yes, he was born. Yes, he rose from the dead and ascended to heaven. However, he will come again. There will be a day when Jesus returns, like a thief in the night. There will be a day when wars end and violence ceases. There will be a day when every tear is wiped away and the promised hope of God’s kingdom is fully realized here on earth.

“Therefore, keep watch, for you do not know the day or the hour.”
