Renewed by the Rain

"Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord; his appearing is as sure as the dawn; he will come to us like the showers, like the spring rains that water the earth.” - Hosea 6:3

It's starting to rain (again) as I write this week's devotion. Two thoughts immediately come to mind. The first is a song called "Blame It On the Rain" by a goofy '80s band called Milli Vanili. The second is this Scripture from an obscure Old Testament prophet named Hosea.

God uses Hosea to call out the people of God for their rebellion.

Long story short - God calls Hosea to marry an unfaithful woman named Gomer. God wants Gomer's unfaithfulness to Hosea to remind the Israelites of their own unfaithfulness to God. Hosea's broken heart reflects God's broken heart. Still, God remains faithful. Even when God's children run away, God continues to love them. Even when we run after false idols (money, career, cell phones, stuff, etc.) God waits for us. God longs for our return.

I know. It sounds too good to be true. However, any parent feels the same towards her/his children. When we love someone, we hold on to hope no matter what.

Our Scripture from Hosea 6:3 invites us to return to the Lord. No matter what our past looks like, no matter what our present holds, God's love for us is as cool and refreshing as the summer rains watering the earth. So, let us press on to know (and love) the Lord.

Friends, I invite you to take a moment and thank God for God's unconditional love. Pastor Caleb
