Preparing for Peace

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers.” For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good. Psalm 122:6-9

The Psalmist writes these words in a time of unrest. Within them is a hope for the peace that God has offered Jerusalem. A peace is far from the Psalmist’s experience. Instead, Jerusalem seems like a place of refuge in the midst of a threatening storm. We experience this peace, this refuge, in the gift of grace we receive through Christ. God has given to us the gift of peace. As we continue to prepare for Christ’s birth, we do so in a world where this often seems like a distant dream. Yet, we are the ones who have been given the gift of peace. We are called to be bearers of Christ’s peace out into the world. We are called to be places of refuge in the midst of storms. We are to be witnesses of this peace, not only within our own boundaries, but also out into the world that cries out to God. As we prepare this season, let us not only prepare our hearts, minds, and souls. Let us also prepare the world for this gift of hope and peace that we receive. Blessings, Pastor Caitlyn
