Bearing Good News
"How lovely are the feet of those who bring good news." - Romans 10:15
Life is full of ups and downs. After the joy of incredible mountaintop experiences last week (with Vacation Bible School last week,) I've been reminded that life is also full of deep valleys.
In the coming weeks, our church family will gather for the memorial services of two strong and beautiful women: Shirley Deneka on July 29 and Jean Polachek on July 30. This past week, we also heard news of two other members of our church family, who are now under Hospice Care: Betty Aspel and Floyd Cooper.
The good news is that they are all women and men of faith. All of them put their trust in the Lord. In their own ways, each of them lived lives of compassion and courage, love and grace. In the midst of sadness, we praise God for their witness of faith.
St. Francis once said that we should share the gospel always, using words when necessary. This is the gift and wonder of life. The most important (and effective) sharing of the gospel happens every day - in our caring for family and friends, in our service towards our neighbors in need, in our giving of ourselves for the sake of others.
Regardless of your season of life, let's lift each other up in prayer. Let's remember those who are hurting around us, and let's share the love of God - in all the ways we can, in all the times we can.
