"My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me and holy is his name" - Luke 1:46-49 -
Each week during Advent we prepare for Christmas in many different ways. We have been preparing our hearts, our homes, and the world as best we can for the celebration of Christ's birth. If you are anything like me, the fact that Christmas is just over a week away still hasn't sunk in. And when it begins to sink in, there are sudden rushes of stress from my realization of the work, shopping, and wrapping that I still have to do! Yet, one week out we aren't reminded of the work in preparation that is left to be done. During this third week we remember the Joy that Christ brings to the world. (And we get to light the pink candle...which is a joyous action in itself!) Preparation can become overwhelming, but we have to remember what it is we are preparing for. Just like a family about to bring home a newborn baby, there is a lot of work to be done. The nursery to be painted, diapers and bottles to be bought, and a crib to be assembled. All things that can feel overwhelming, but are done in preparation of this great joy that is coming. This week, in the midst of preparation and business, may we remember the great joy that we are welcoming into the world.
