It's Christmas

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother,

and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures,

they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod,

they departed to their own country by another way. Matthew 2:10-12

We have finally arrived in Christmas time! While for many of us it feels like Christmas is winding down because our holiday celebrations are over, Christmas Day is really the beginning of the 12 days of Christmas.

The fun has just begun! This year I have been thinking about how we celebrate Christmas as the wise men in the Gospel of Matthew's telling of Jesus' birth. They arrive on the day of excitement, offer these great gifts, and then return home.

It feels like their stories are over, but I have a hard time believing they went back to life as normal. After the big celebration of Christmas, they may have returned home, but their lives were changed. They worshiped this baby that they knew would change the world. I imagine that it also changed the way they lived their lives.

Celebrating Christ's birth doesn't stop on Christmas day. It doesn't even stop after the 12 days of Christmas. The gift that we celebrate on Christmas day is one that continues to light up our lives, changing us and the world that we live in.

May the spirit of Christ continue to transform you as we live with that love in our hearts. - Pastor Caitlyn
