Stronger Together

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

This month, the United Methodist Church will be meeting for a special session of the General Conference. At this meeting, the church will act on a report provided by the Commission on a Way Forward task force. While what may come from this meeting is unknown, there will be discussions about the future of our church. Click here if you would like to learn more about the Commission on a Way Forward.

With all that is happening in our larger church, I would like to spend this month exploring what Scripture says about our being in community with one another.

Last week, before beginning class, our confirmation students were talking about a lesson they learned in Sunday School. They had been breaking toothpicks, at first one at a time, then many at once. The more toothpicks they added, the harder they became to break.

As a community, we are many individuals, who believe many different things. Sometimes, it may feel as if these differences are too big for us to connect. Yet, through Christ's love, we come together as one. This love surpasses all that may keep us apart.

While we have individual strengths on our own, we are stronger together. When one of us is weak, the rest of us are there for support. As the body of Christ, we are called to unite together. We care called to be in ministry with one another to the world. Community is at the very core of our call. It is together that we live into and share God's grace.

Blessings, Pastor Caitlyn
