Uncertainty

If you joined us for worship this past Sunday (5/10,) you saw the Pathfinders band close our service. One of the band's leaders, Mike Brown, is a teacher, coach, and long time-member of our church. Today's devotion is offered by Mike:

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Isaiah 41:10 Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

If you are like me, you probably strive to have control of the things that can affect your life. You strive hard for financial independence; you give sage advice to your children and you pursue things that can make your life more rewarding. I don’t think we are being control freaks by doing these things. However, there are things that are beyond our control, and this pandemic has strained our ability to control our own situations. Certainly, there are things that we can do: wear masks, stay at home, wash our hands. But there is so much that we can’t control. Sometimes I find myself full of worry and doubt. What is the world going to look like 6 months from now, a year, two years? Will we be in the midst of the greatest economic depression of all time? Will our children, our friends, our family be safe? These thoughts can consume me and keep me up at night. When this happens, I go to the one thing I know and that has always worked for me. I give it to God. Because no matter what the trials or tribulations I have faced in my life, they have always been more manageable with Jesus. I know that the most control I can assert in my life comes when I lift my burdens up to Jesus and let him handle it. I sleep better, I smile more, and I worry less. Burdens are hard to carry alone. but the Bible invites us to cast all our anxieties on him. Jesus said, For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:30. In these uncertain times, lighten your load and share your yoke with Jesus. Mike Brown
