A Healthy Change

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?" - 1 Corinthians 6:19) Recently, one of my colleagues officiated the funeral service for a man. He was diagnosed with serious heart issues and his doctors advised him to get his affairs in order. Rather than preparing for his death, he made a healthy change. He decided that he would would exercise more and eat healthier foods. Friends, he made this change almost 20 years ago. At his funeral, family and friends all noted how the decision to make small (but significant) changes made a large impact on his life. Sure, he lived longer (almost 20 years). More importantly, he improved the quality of his life. He felt better, experienced less pain, and saw the doctors less frequently. He was able to travel, see the birth of new grandchildren, and celebrate the graduation of older ones. He experienced this new chapter of life because he made the conscious decision to choose life over death. There's a lot happening in our world - both good and bad. However, there's nothing we can do about it if we're not caring for our bodies. If we choose to be faithful stewards of our bodies - if we include exercise and eat healthier foods - we can make a change. We can impact our community and families for the better. We can leave the world a better place for the next generation. Several months ago, I made small (but significant) changes in my own life. I stopped eating late-night meals. I cut out junk food (mostly, kinda). I have started exercising at home for 30 minutes 4 days a week. My short term goal is to eliminate some of my daily pills. My longer term goal is to be present and healthy for my family. How about you? Are you choosing life or death? Are you being a faithful steward of your physical body? Friends, each of our lives are unique All of us face different challenges. However, all of us can choose life. All of us can make changes (today) that will improve our lives (tomorrow). What does this look like for you? - Pastor Caleb
